10 + Useful Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing Wall Charts

In an engineering or manufacturing facility it is always useful to reference information or charts in a readily accessible format. Opening a phone or moving to a conference room simply to look at and discuss a chart that should be displayed is a waste of time and can be fixed by simply displaying a large poster wall chart for all employees on a shop/factory floor or in an office.

Below are a grouping of useful reference charts and resources for displaying.

GD&T information is probably the most important reference material for mechanical engineers and manufacturers who deal with parts and assemblies with tight tolerances. As engineering and manufacturing becomes more frequently outsourced to multiple partners, keeping track of and fully understanding the requirements of GD&T constrained parts becomes more relevant. If you or your company work with tight tolerances, it can be useful to display accessible GD&T charts for reference.

On to a more broadly practical topic – tooling and machining information and conversion charts are always handy to keep around. Many engineers carry this information as pocket reference packets or cards so they don’t have to constantly be opening their phone to retrieve this reference information. In a more static environment, like an office or a manufacturing shop, it can be useful to post larger charts on the wall so all personnel can share the same points of reference.

Welding Joints and Symbols

About

Engineers, drafters, welders, and anyone who works with engineering drawings has searched for weld symbol reference information. Keep the information in your wallet at all times on a durable stainless steel engraved card. Compare symbols on engineering drawings side-by-side with the weld symbol reference card.

  • Front - Welding symbols

  • Back - Labeled elements of a welding symbol

  • Portable welding reference chart

  • Durable for workbench use

If you work with welding in the design or manufacturing side of engineering, it can be very useful to post a larger reference chart showcasing weld joints and weld symbols for everyone to see. Far too often while speaking with colleagues or personnel on the shop floor, information about welding is forgotten or simply unknown. Being able to stand by a chart and show or reference information as a group is much easier than gathering around a phone or in a conference room.

Hardness Conversions

9. Wilson Hardness Conversion Chart

Useful in manufacturing and multiple forms of engineering, a hardness conversion chart can save some unnecessary research time. This chart is downloadable and allows for easy conversion reference of hardness values between the Rockwell scales and Brinell scales.

Psychrometric Chart

10. Trane – Psychrometric Chart

11. Wall Part – Full Size Psychrometric Chart Print Poster

Admittedly, I have never had a use for these charts in my line of work, but colleagues do use them on a regular basis. If you work with products that are sensitive to air and environmental properties, it may be useful to have quick access to a psychrometric chart for back-of-the napkin estimates.
